Our IntentionGetting along and enjoying our time together To spark connection and kindness we focus on creating and maintaining a warm, caring and responsive relationship with each child and as a group of children. This provides a safe and nurturing environment in which children are encouraged to explore their creative, emotional and intellectual abilities, through kindness, empathy, talking about what they need and physical activity.
Self Confidence
Children are people just like us with traits, some good and some less glorious. With traits come feelings that are in a constant state of flux. Sometimes we understand them sometimes we don’t. Finding joy in being curious about ourselves and of those around us, helps us to be accepting and self-confident people. This helps us practice gratitude. We help the children to recognize the hidden qualities in themselves, be proud of their fine qualities and accepting without judgement that there are areas which may need some work. When a child knows that it is okay to stumble in some areas of life, practice kindness towards themself, not only are they able to face the world with a smile and a helping hand but they are then very accepting of others and whatever strengths and weaknesses they may boast. RespectWe focus on respect as a way to build genuine self-confidence. We practice respect all the time, whether at the table eating lunch, sharing tasks, paying attention to the teachers when asked to do something, or the kind and gentle way in which the children are expected to interact with their peers. PolitenessManners are an integral part of growing up. Good manners are the outward sign of self-respect and respect for those people and things which surround us. One important aspect we constantly work on with the children is to teach them not to scream and not speak too loudly. When they are upset we talk about what they are feeling, acknowledge those feelings and move towards talking about what they need and why they need it and how best to ask for what they need in a way that sparks connection. This is a very important part of politeness that makes it possible to maintain calm and harmony in the school. Language development
I am bilingual and speak in a mature and clear fashion to the children. This is very important to help them develop their language aptitudes in a way that feels natural and correct. Our daycare focuses on exposing young children to English and French to help them develop better communication skills and their appreciation for different ways of thinking so the can practice speaking calmly about what matters most to them throughout their life. Movement
Creating a space for indoor and outdoor play promotes the development of physical skills such as stepping, jumping, hopping, skipping, running, climbing, and being aware of their body in a large physical space. None competitive play creates a space to practice social and emotional skills such as sharing things, toys, taking turns and cooperating, participating in group games and activities, creating imaginative and inventive playground games that spark connection and appreciation. Contributing to safe playground behaviour is listening to and following directions, making choices, persevering with and overcoming a challenge, feeling a sense of accomplishment, learning to deal with frustration, releasing tension in a positive manner, encouraging imaginative play, Play creates a space for children to practice patience and asking for what they need in a manner that sparks connection and appreciation.
